Dr. Marcella Marcey has worked within the field of psychology since 1972, when she received her first master's degree.  She worked for thirteen years as a school psychologist in Fairfax County, Virginia.  In 1988, she returned to school to earn a second master's degree and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University. She has since maintained a private practice for over 20 years.

Dr. Marcey works with clients of all ages – her youngest client was 18 months-old, and her oldest was 96 years old.  In addition to seeing clients on an individual basis, she also provides couples and family counseling, and group therapy. 

Her unique specialty is working with the surviving family members of homicide victims, and she wrote her dissertation on the long-tern effects of experiencing the traumatic death of an individual or loved one.  Over the years Dr. Marcey has developed skills for treating a wide variety of clients and issues, including:

·      Stress and Anger Management

·      Parenting skills training

·      Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

·      Grief counseling

·      Panic Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder

·      Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) clients

·      Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia, as well as their family members

·      Chronic illness

·      Oppositional teenagers

·      Learning disabled and ADD students

·      Difficult preschoolers

·      Depression

One other unique feature of her practice is her use of trained therapy dogs. 

Outside of her private practice, Dr. Marcey is an adjunct professor at both George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), and she enjoys giving talks to groups in the community.
